Arcachon - Local Customs

Jun 17, 2016

Description

The Bay of Arcachon lies about 50nm south of the Gironde. The town of Arcachon is a holiday resort, well known for its sandy beaches and for the growing Pyla sand dune in the bay.

Marina

There is a huge marina here and most marine services are available. There is a fuel berth close to the entrance by the Port Captain's office.

Entrance Notes

The entrance can be dangerous as it is subject to large swells over the sandbanks at the entrance to the bay. Unfortunately, a boat has to turn beam on to them to make the entrance. Take care to follow the marker buoys as the deep water channel changes. Once inside, the river is calm and sheltered.

Call Cap Ferret Signal Station on VHF CH16 or Tel: +33 0556037627 and they will advise if and when it is safe to enter.

Position: 44° 33.11'N, 01° 17.17'W (river/bay entrance)
