Crotone - Restrictions

Nov 20, 2018

Description:

This large port lies at the western tip of the Gulf of Taranto. It is, in fact, two ports, Porto Nouvo is the commercial port. The southerly port, Porto Vecchio is where the marina is located (see google map right).

Crotone is easily identified by four gas platforms on the approach. The commercial harbour is completely separate and off to the NW of the yacht harbour. Beware of the usual amount of commercial traffic and cruise ships in the area. Once within the small boat harbour, there are several competing marina concerns.

In general quite a fun place to be if you do not have too high an expectation.

Position:

39° 04.62'N, 17° 08.17'E (yacht harbour entrance)

Note: In strong southerlies, this is not a safe harbour. An alternative is Ciro, 17 miles north of Crotone (see details below in docking).
