Gallipoli is a nice Mediterranean town. The old city is worth a walkthrough. In the newer part, on the Corso Roma, which ends at the harbour, you’ll find everything you need. I was at the Marina Bleu Salento, all year open, very friendly and helpful. There may be cheaper places around, as you find them in your books. But I arrived at night in winter bad weather ahead, and this Marina provides the best all-around shelter.
I also took a walk to the southern harbour which looked a bit uncomfortable at stronger southerlies.
Like Otranto on the east side of Puglia, Gallipoli is the alternative to St. Maria di Leuca when a little stronger winds from the south are expected.
