Great marina with good facilities, although we found our 44′ cat did move a fair bit on the med mooring in strong winds. Although to be fair we had up to 32 kts in the marina when we stayed with a big swell running. We were there for 12 days at the start of the winter season to have some work done in EU. Well organised and inclusive social calendar thanks to the large contingent of live-aboards wintering there, who made us feel right at home.

We arranged in advance to have our solar panels delivered there, as well as the stainless frame fabrication and fitting, and installation of the solar panels (wiring and controller already done). Noting the previous negative comments, there were some challenges with the timing of the work. We needed to push and impress that we were not wintering here and only planned to stay for a week. Bad weather, a public holiday and what appeared to be a lack of foresight (e.g. work stopping due to lack of basic materials, like some nuts) cost us an extra 5 days there, but the stainless work was good quality. It was actually outsourced to a workshop in Ragusa, which added a layer of complexity. The workshop team were very nice and did do a good job. I would recommend establishing expectations, ongoing communication, not leaving anything to chance or making assumptions, as well as continual oversight and checking to ensure you get what you want. Overall we were happy with the work, but it was fairly straightforward.

You can get gas bottles refilled at nearby chandlery. We also had a UV strip put on our Gennaker by Sonica Sails, who did a reasonable job at a good price.

As of October 2017, it is now possible to complete the Costituto di Arrivo process in Porto Turistico Marina di Ragusa. A Coast Guard contingent has an office and a boat in the marina and, at least a few days a week, will arrange to take your costituto application. Arrange it through the marina office; all of the ladies there are very helpful and speak good English.

Considering wintering here 2016/17, we were quoted (for the 12-15m boat) 1700 euro for a 7-month contract for next season (2016) and Licata quoted 1702 euro, both including VAT.

Hi Sue. Thanks for your comment. I will be wintering in Ragusa in September 2016 (the boat is currently in Lipari). Would you happen to know reliable boatyard that could do serious work (rigging, aluminium work) there? I cannot find any information. The only thing I read on cruisers forum is a bad experience with one of the shipyards there, but there might be more serious yards. Thanks if you have feedback.
