Marina di Ragusa - Docking
The marina has long, overlapping breakwaters, giving protection from winds from all directions and of all strengths, even in the strongest winds there is no chop or any surges in the marina.
Approaches
Call the marina on VHF 74 (0600 to 2300) as you approach Ragusa and wait before entering.
The average depth off the marina entrance is 2.80 / 3 mt. The safe channel into the marina, which is currently un-marked, has an average depth of 4.5 mt. Dredging is currently taking place.
The marina is waiting for authorisation from the Capitaneria di Porto to install buoys to mark the safe entrance channel.
Entering the Marina
Be sure to keep to port while entering and stay as close as possible to the red light.
Entry is safe, except in very strong southerlies when large waves reduce the depth between the breakwaters to less than 3.6 meters. Caution should be applied in severe conditions.
Once inside the breakwater marina personnel will guide you to a berth and assist with docking between the hours of 0600 and 2300. The sturdy pontoons are equipped with lazy lines and have 32-amp power connections and water outlets for every berth.
As well as berthing in the marina, it is also possible to anchor off in the lee of the breakwater giving shelter from the prevailing winds.
A boatyard is situated in the South West corner, equipped with a 160-ton travel lift and a 30-ton crane. The yard is capable of most repairs; working on your own boat is not permitted.
The town centre of Marina di Ragusa is adjacent to the marina and in easy walking distance. The town of Ragusa is a ½ an hour bus ride away and has a number of major shopping centres.

FYI: We inquired about storing our boat on the hard at the boatyard near Marina di Ragusa. The boatyard told us that they do not offer dry storage service. They only keep boats in the yard for the time needed to complete commissioned works.
yes this is true, all the boats that overwinter here are wet-sailed.
LP gas fills available from local chandlery (see LPG section). Bottles can be dropped off and collected when full. Prices as of November ’18 were reported as €26 for a 17kg bottle.
Great marina with good facilities, although we found our 44′ cat did move a fair bit on the med mooring in strong winds. Although to be fair we had up to 32 kts in the marina when we stayed with a big swell running. We were there for 12 days at the start of the winter season to have some work done in EU. Well organised and inclusive social calendar thanks to the large contingent of live-aboards wintering there, who made us feel right at home.
We arranged in advance to have our solar panels delivered there, as well as the stainless frame fabrication and fitting, and installation of the solar panels (wiring and controller already done). Noting the previous negative comments, there were some challenges with the timing of the work. We needed to push and impress that we were not wintering here and only planned to stay for a week. Bad weather, a public holiday and what appeared to be a lack of foresight (e.g. work stopping due to lack of basic materials, like some nuts) cost us an extra 5 days there, but the stainless work was good quality. It was actually outsourced to a workshop in Ragusa, which added a layer of complexity. The workshop team were very nice and did do a good job. I would recommend establishing expectations, ongoing communication, not leaving anything to chance or making assumptions, as well as continual oversight and checking to ensure you get what you want. Overall we were happy with the work, but it was fairly straightforward.
You can get gas bottles refilled at nearby chandlery. We also had a UV strip put on our Gennaker by Sonica Sails, who did a reasonable job at a good price.
you cannot do a Constituto at Marina di Ragusa – you have to do it at Pozzallo as they fall under that area. Even though there is a boat at MdR they are not allowed to stamp anything even after you have your Constituto. Pozzallo is a port only for two ferries a day and the better and more helpful place to clear is at Licata if you are on the South Coast.
As of October 2017, it is now possible to complete the Costituto di Arrivo process in Porto Turistico Marina di Ragusa. A Coast Guard contingent has an office and a boat in the marina and, at least a few days a week, will arrange to take your costituto application. Arrange it through the marina office; all of the ladies there are very helpful and speak good English.
There is a big sand bank at the Marina entrance which is very dangerous. A month ago a boat was beached here with serious damages. It is an unsafe entrance, not marked with a buoy. Never enter by night or with waves or moderate wind.
Sunday another boat went aground. The last depth reading said about 2m. No dredging for this summer.

Considering wintering here 2016/17, we were quoted (for the 12-15m boat) 1700 euro for a 7-month contract for next season (2016) and Licata quoted 1702 euro, both including VAT.
Hi JC – cruisers have reported that the boatyard in Licata can handle work for both commercial and recreational boats and has a well-maintained travel lift.
Hi Sue. Thanks for your comment. I will be wintering in Ragusa in September 2016 (the boat is currently in Lipari). Would you happen to know reliable boatyard that could do serious work (rigging, aluminium work) there? I cannot find any information. The only thing I read on cruisers forum is a bad experience with one of the shipyards there, but there might be more serious yards. Thanks if you have feedback. Now into our third winter here. Cheap, 1068 Euros for seven months. Very well sheltered, hardly a ripple in the marina even with 50+ knots of wind. Sicilians very friendly, good and not expensive shops and supermarkets. Happy hour prices in the local bar ALL week, 1.50 small bottle of beer, 2.50 large bottle, a generous glass of wine 1.50 and a constant flow of free snacks. The only downside is poor chandleries, but mail order from rest of Europe meets most needs. Airport 30 minutes away with cheap public transport.
