Launceston is one of the island state of Tasmania's principal cities. It is situated in the Tamar Valley at the confluence of the North Esk, South Esk and Tamar rivers. It is Tasmania's second-largest city (after Hobart) and serves as the primary commercial hub for the region, approximately 200 km north of Hobarty.
As Australia's third oldest city, Launceston has a long history and has been home to the Tasmanian Aboriginals for thousands of years.
The city has a vibrant food culture and is a UNESCO City of Gastronomy, one of only 49 around the world. It is also known for its lavender growing industry.

Beauty Point Marina charges $16.50 per night casual rate + $11 per night as a live aboard (after 3 days). Old Seaport is quite a bit more expensive and a LONG way from the ocean, but right in town. There are facilities in Devonport which are best if you are just transiting, but Beauty Pt is the place for medium term.
