Description:
Situated on the western side of Batam Island, Sekupang has a ferry port that caters for international (Singapore) passengers and a commercial port.
Entrance Notes and Cautions:
Approaching from all directions is clearly buoyed as this is a major commercial area. There are many fast ferries to be aware of, 25 knots as usual. The local approach channel from the north is clear and there are no unusual hazards if you are working with the charts within the marked channel.
The Barelang bridge number 1, in Batam Indonesia, has a 34 meter clearance. Its a series of 6 bridges that shut off the whole south area of Batam, only the first one connected to the main island Batam is that high. A cruising yacht with a 23 meter mast cleared this bridge with plenty of space above.
