Medana Bay - Bio Security

Where is Medana Bay?

This bay is just east of the Oberoi peninsula at the northern end of Lombok's west coast.

It offers a protected anchorage during the South East Monsoon but is open to the north so should be avoided during the NW monsoon (mid-Dec to March).

Entrance Notes and Cautions for Medana Bay:

The approach from the east tracks through 08°20.067'S and 116°08.361'E in deep water to a transit waypoint at 08°20.432'S 116°07.685'E where it bears south into Medana Bay – locally called Teluk Dalem, meaning Deep Bay.

If your approach is a little to the north of this track you may be surprised by the depths suddenly becoming shallower from over 20m to just 7m as you pass over some coral. Don't be alarmed – you do still have 7m of water in this shallow spot.

The approach from the west tracks in north of Gili Air and Gili Trawangan to the same transit waypoint, keeping half of Gili Meno in your sights behind Gili Air. This is to ensure a wide berth of the coral fringe to Medana headland

See the marina website for more detailed information when "Coming in by Boat".

Cruiser Highlights for Medana Bay:

There is a marina here with good facilities and a slipway with 38T trailer - the first haulout facility for sailboats in South Central Indonesia.

Close to the three Gili Islands and with views of Mount Rinjani to the east at 3,726m, this is a very quiet and restful place.  Simple and comfortable hotel rooms at reasonable prices if you want to have a few days ashore.  Restaurant/cafe with friendly and efficient service.

Position:

8° 21.9'S, 116° 7.8'E
