Bitung - Docking

Oct 21, 2024

It is advisable to arrive in daylight as the number of fishing boats leaving at dusk and FADs make a night approach hazardous.

This harbour has two marked entrance channels; one from the north and the other from the southern end of the Lembeh Strait.

There are a good anchorage and shelter off the southern end of Sarena Besar (01°27.545'N, 125°13.862'E), the island in the middle of the Strait, just north of the harbour. Depth is about 20 meters.

It is also possible to anchor off the town or off Lembeh on the S side of the channel. They are both convenient for the town.

The can be a lot of debris in the water here (plastics, logs, tree branches etc).

It is possible to land by dinghy at the Fishing Pier (Perlabuhan Perikanan Aertembaga on Google Maps). Use a stern anchor when tying up and be aware of the tidal height (about a two meter range).
