Spain Yachting Essentials

Electricity

  • Voltage: 230 V
  • Frequency: 50 Hz

Available on all marina pontoons via standard marina sockets.

Water

Water is readily available in all ports and marinas and is normally included in the berthing fee. Water quality is good throughout Spain, however, the taste may vary so it's worth checking for drinking water. Bottled mineral water can be purchased in large 5-liter bottles at low cost and is easy to find.

LPG/Gas

Camping Gaz can be exchanged in hardware stores, fuel stations, and some supermarkets. Other cylinders are harder to fill especially if it's more than 5 years old. Be sure to carry a range of adaptors and regulators.

Fuel

Dockside diesel is easy to find and generally clean, but petrol will normally require a trip to a local service station.

Holding Tanks

It is compulsory for Spanish flagged vessels to have holding tanks fitted, pump-out facilities can be found in most big ports. Holding tanks must be used in port areas, protected areas, rivers, bays and less than 4nm offshore.

Marinas

See this useful report with marina charges for various ports around Spain. In the main, marina charges are based on length x beam, so it’s advisable to carry certified documents on board that state these measurements.

The Association of Nautical Clubs of Galicia (ASNAUGA) has an app with marina information, updates and bookings, on a map interface, plus a discount scheme.

Chandlery & Repairs

Facilities for yachts are extensive and expanding all the time. Boatyards with travel lifts are easy to find although some may cater predominantly for commercial boats. In contrast, well-stocked chandleries are rare (unless you are in a major yachting center such as Palma de Mallorca or Barcelona), however hardware stores (ferreterias) catering for fishing boats are abundant.
