Spain - Money

Oct 12, 2025

Spain's currency is the Euro.

Banks tend to open during the week 0830-1400, but few are open on Saturdays. All have ATMs and these can also be found in some fuel stations and supermarkets. If using a foreign card to withdraw cash, many banks charge for this service (up to 5 Euros a transaction).

Major credit cards are widely accepted (although check when refuelling as sometimes this is cash payment only).

Note: You are required to carry some form of photo ID with you at all times in Spain and will often be asked for it in shops and restaurants etc. when making payment with a credit card.
