Description:
Ria de Muros is the most remote of the four Rias Baixas and is the first encountered after rounding Costa da Morte. Unlike the other 3 Rias, Muros is not protected by off-lying islands and the weather tends to be rainier and colder than further south, hence its harbours have not developed as extensively and tourism remains contained.
Look out for lobster pots when approaching this Ria from the North.
The Ria contains the towns of Muros and Noia, both gems, steeped in history and still retaining all their historical charm. There are many quite anchorages along the N coast of the Ria.
Portosin, on the south side of the Ria, is a welcoming marina although the town is not much to speak of. The marina staff speak English, French, German and Italian and it is a good place from which to visit the well-known city of Santiago de Compostela and its Cathedral.
If visiting this area, the pre-Roman settlement of Castro de Barona is not to be missed. See attractions for more details.
Position:
42° 43.42'N, 09° 03.53'W (ria entrance)
