Gouvia (Corfu) - Clearance

For full details on clearing into or out of Greece see Greece Formalities.

From April to September EU flagged boats can clear into Greece here, as there is a Port Police office that operates at Gouvia marina for administering the DEKPA. Fees are paid to the marina when you check-in the boat and the Port Police undertake Immigration and deal with the DEKPA.

Non-EU flagged boats cannot clear into Greece here, and instead have to get their Transit Log at the Customs office in the main port of Corfu town. It’s possible to take a taxi into town from Gouvia to complete formalities, or alternatively anchor in the bay under the Citadel and walk/bike to the authorities.

Out of season, all boats have to visit Corfu town to complete formalities.

According to a ministerial directive which came into effect in September 2007, every boat over 7m that enters Greece and is not permanently moored in the country, is obliged to pay a fee of 15€ each time they enter the country. The relative directive is valid all over Greece, however noonsite has only heard of Gouvia Port Police charging this “cruising permit” fee.

As of April 2019 you can now clear into Greece easily at the marina. You pay the DEKPA fee to the marina office when you check in the boat. They give you a receipt that you take to the Port Police (office near marina office). They look at ships papers and passports and issue DEKPA. Very easy.

The new cruising tax coming in May can be paid online via bank transfer.

Tried to Clear Into Gouvia, they would not take us as we were a foreign flagged boat that was coming from Montenegro.

We were sent to the Commercial Dock near the old fort and were not welcomed by an official (who was useless at line-handling) he was concerned about the ferries and other commercial vessels who use the port.

Main officials were excellent however I would recommend other similar (Non-EU) vessels anchor in the bay below the Citadel and walk/bike or taxi back to complete formalities.

Gouvia is one of the friendliest sailboat spots anywhere in Greece. The Volvo engineer is incredibly responsive and capable as were all the service providers we used this summer.
