General Info
Description:
Kavala is a large, conspicuous city with a commercial port. It has many redeeming features however with Roman remains, a well preserved Byzantine citadel and a great choice of good bars and eateries.
Conditions for visiting yachts have improved with the installation of floating pontoons with water and shore power.

Docking
The harbour consists of inner and outer basins. Visiting yachts must moor in the outer harbour.
The preferred place for yachts to moor are on the new floating pontoons in the NW corner of the outer harbour. Although situated in front of the Nautical Yacht Club of Kavala (NOK) all berthing in this harbour is administered by PAK (contact details below). The pontoons have plenty of power and water towers (keys available from PAK) and there are laid lines (no anchoring). If there is space, coming alongside may be possible.
The alternative is finding a space on the north quay between the outer limit of the floating pontoons and the fishing boats, using your own anchor and coming in bows-to. This quay is used by many workboats who have established laid lines and getting ashore here can be tricky with much of the quayside stepped (yellow steel frame). Power and water are available, but limited. The shelter is good, as is the holding in the mud of the harbour bottom.
If seeking shelter, there is a storm anchorage on the far west side of the harbour with good holding.
