There is now a website for the marinas and ports on the whole of Evia. It now has an island-wide computer system covering all the tourist anchorages as well as additional information useful when cruising around the island. See http://olne.gr/en/

It is also possible to buy a card giving access to the new water and electricity pedestals located at various anchorages around the island.

There are few safe, sheltered anchorages on the west coast south of Khalkis (Chalcis) and even fewer north of it.

Limni

25 kms (15.5 miles) northwest of Khalkis is the very attractive, small protected harbour of Limni. It is possible to berth inside the harbour which has a very narrow entrance and requires some tight maneuvering. The colour coding system used in Khalkis is also used here (red for visiting yachts – easily seen in the photo) and there are a handful of alongside berths for visitors.

The narrowest width at the entrance to the harbour is approx. 15 meters (49.2 ft) of which 3-4 meters (10 – 13 ft) has silted up. Yachts should stay as close as possible to the breakwater on entering. This space could be further restricted if there is a boat moored on the breakwater close to the entrance.

Water and electricity are available on the quay via an Evia Port Authority smart card. In settled whether it is possible to moor on the outside of the mole or anchor off the village. Reported to be a very clean harbour for swimming. Good shops close to the harbour.  1.6kms west of Limni harbor there is a boatyard (Evia Boatyard).

Orei

On the northern coast of Evia, opposite the entrance into the Gulf of Volos, Orei is a quiet, pretty harbor, with much improved facilities. Moor stern-to on the northern side of the harbor, or on the south side if space is available. Holding is excellent.

There is now electricity and water on the quay and provisioning here is varied and easy. Supermarket Orei is reasonably priced, close to the harbour and they deliver promptly without any additional cost (also exchange Camping Gas cylinders). Cruisers also recommend the boatyard close to here for it’s winter offers (see below).

Kimi

The east coast is wild, rugged and sparsely populated. The fishing port of Kimi offers good shelter from the Meltemi and has adequate services.

    We visited Limni on 2 June 2016 and were enchanted by the place. It is an idyllic harbour and town with good facilities. The harbour entrance is very narrow and entrance involves a sharp turn to port.

    The harbour itself is also very narrow, so maneuvering would be very difficult in windy conditions. Visitor’s mooring is marked in red and is limited to about 5 places alongside. We had a tidal range of at least 750 mm at spring tides.

    Our visit was marred when a gang of loud, uncouth, drunken youths made a nuisance of themselves at the mooring and a pair of my dockside shoes that were on the quay were thrown into the water for no reason whatsoever.

    Apart from that our visit was very enjoyable and Limni is to be recommended.

    A very small harbour but well protected, it is full of locals, but they are helpful. Also here RED painted areas are special for visiting yachts. We could find a place there without problem after a little shuffle with boats.

    Another yacht was at the space of a local fisherman, but when the fisherman came back he just moored his boat on the outside of the yacht (all carefully).

    If the harbour is full and there are not too big waves, one can moor at the outside of the mole as it is 5 meters deep, the same is valid for the inside. People jump off their boats and swim to the small beach just outside the harbour.

    Locals are swimming, diving, canoeing all day, the harbour has very clean water. Nobody asked us for mooring fees. Officially there should be somebody, but such a person is responsible for more harbours so if you are lucky you will see nobody.

    Another yacht was there already for 10 days without paying. Also here are the same electricity and water poles with the EVIA port Authority Smart-card. In Limni there are no tourists other than a few yachts, so prices of food etc. are normal. Supermarket, bakery, and vegetables shop all within 300 meters from the harbour.

      We moored here on 5 June 2016 for 2 nights and can confirm the above. The supermarket mentioned above, Supermarket Orei, is reasonably priced, is close to the harbour and they deliver promptly without any additional cost.

      They also exchanged a 3 kg cylinder of Camping Gas for us for only €8.00 (We paid €15 in Patras).
      We moored on stern-to the northern side of the harbour together with about 10 other yachts. Holding is excellent.

      There is also available space on the south side which is available.
      Butchery is very close by. The only gripe is that the Evia power and water pillar near our mooring was not working. Nobody came to collect any fees.

    We visited the nice harbour of Orei on the North Side of Evia. Very nice harbour, electricity service poles, smart-card available at the supermarket. A guy (probably connected to the supermarket) helps with mooring, even in hard rain, we saw.

    The north mole was originally designed for freight ships, so there is about 9 meters depth. Very large yachts can moor on the outside of the western-mole, still protected from Northerlies. There is also water and electricity from poles using the smart card system at this mole.

    Many harbour restaurants and a car-free zone at the restaurant’s terraces. Once in the 3 days we were there somebody from the Coastguard came to collect mooring fees of 4 or 5 euros per night for our 12 meter boat.

    Nice sandy beach 10 meters away! Sometimes there is a little surge from passing ferry boats, they pass far away so 20 minutes later you feel the wash. There is a kind of tide here, we went up and down 6o cm.

    Good strong mud bottom, very good holding, 3 supermarkets, one of them delivers to your yacht (why should you ever want to leave here??!!) Also a LIDL in the next town 6.5 km away.
    Diesel is available about 300 meters from the harbour at a petrol station.

    About 1-mile southwest I discovered a boatyard which has very interesting offers for wintering your boat here. We were so impressed that we decided already to leave our yacht there for the coming winter 2015/16.

    Three times a day there is a direct bus connection to Athens (3.5 hours). It is 16 € per person plus a ferry ticket (4€ ??) as the bus goes quickly off the
    island at Loutra Edipso and takes the highway on the mainland to Athens center.

    The boatyard comes to the harbour in case of repairs and has a good reputation as I spoke to several English and French boaters.

    We visited last week the harbour of Kimi on the north side of the Island of Evia.

    There is space on the quay for about 20 boats. When we arrived at 20:00 there were only 5 yachts, so space enough. We saw the port police, smiled at them, but they did not ask for anything.

    There are service poles with water and electricity, the same as we have seen on Egina Island. You have to buy a smart stick, a blue plastic piece with a value on it, mostly 5 or 10 €. The system transfers the value of the stick to the service pole, water or electricity.

    Leftover value can be transferred back to the stick and will be returned to you at the return of the stick. Kiosks and shops or other persons are dealing with these sticks. Kimi has also enough space between the piers to anchor and is good shelter from the famous Meltemi.
