Shetland Round Britain and Ireland Race held every four years will return to Lerwick in June 2010 and is organised by Royal Western Yacht Club. Open to 2 handed monohull and multihulls 30 - 50 ft long
Up Helly Aa - Europe's largest fire festival held in Lerwick on the last Tuesday in January every year (with the following Wednesday being a public holiday). Series of marches and visitations, culminating in a torch-lit procession and burning of a galley.
