General Info
Description:
Lossiemouth (or Lossie as it is known locally) is a former fishing port on the southern shore of the Moray Firth, just 5 miles north of Elgin. As with many of the coastal towns in the area, it consists mainly of small, neat, white stone cottages built during the 18th and 19th century; an era of prosperity due to the herring fishing.
Position:
57° 43.41’N, 03° 16.60’W (harbour entrance)
Docking
The harbour consists of two basins. Both the East (or south) and West (or north) basins now have yacht pontoons. The visitors’ berths are to port just inside the East Basin. The west basin also houses the remains of the once thriving fishing fleet. Both basins are dredged to 2m. The harbour entrance can be dangerous in strong SE’lies.
