Grenada - Money

Feb 07, 2025

The local currency is the East Caribbean dollar (EC$ or XCD) which is tied to the US dollar since 1976 at a rate of US$1 to EC$2.7.

US dollars are widely accepted but the exchange rate used may be different, ask first.

  • Hotels and car rental companies accept most major credit cards.
  • Travellers cheques are accepted through the island.
  • Banks will exchange EC dollars for US dollars and travellers cheques.

A price rounding system has been implemented within the ECCU countries for the settlement of cash transactions only, whereby the total payment, inclusive of duties, fees and taxes, is rounded symmetrically to the nearest five cents. Non-cash payments using cheques, debit and credit cards are not impacted and therefore are not rounded.
