Description:

Grenville is a major port for the agriculture export industry and lies on the eastern coast of Grenada. It is the second largest town and is the capital of the largest parish in Grenada, Saint Andrew Parish.

While theport is primarily for commercial ships, yachts can clear in and out here. Currently, however, the port is out of operation due to maintenance works.

The town was named after George Grenville, a British prime minister during the 18th century. Also known as Rainbow City, it is home to over 2,000 inhabitants.

Today, the port is a vital part of the city. Adjacent to the cargo pier is a market, organised every weekend with locals selling handicrafts, dairy and agro-based products.

The port serves fishing vessels and small cargo ships and functions as the transportation and financial centre for the eastern part of the island.

Cruiser Highlights:

All essential amenities. Good place to learn windsurfing or SUP. The Belmont Plantation, Petite Anse hotel and beach, River Antoine rum distillery and Sauteurs village are all worth visiting.

Entrance Notes or Cautions:

The harbor is marked by buoys and posts. There is ten feet of water through Luffing Channel at high tide and 12 feet inside the harbor. If the buoys and posts get lost, the gap in the reef is apparent. Head halway between the reefs.

Requin is only six miles. Arrange your arrival on or before 1400 so the sun is behind you or overhead. The entrance to the harbor is through the reef.

When leaving the harbor, pick up the range/transit marks on the north side of the harbor to make sure that you are in the center of Luffing Channel, then head east on a course of 124 degrees magnetic. There is plenty of water between the shoals except for the outer entrance marked by two buoys, so it is important to look at the chart. The two shoals are easy to spot in case the buoys are missing.

Position:

12°7’N, 61°37’W (Grenville Bay)
