YachtFlags.com provides high quality courtesy flags that are manufactured in durable Knitted Polyester fabric. Knitted so that the fabric itself does not deteriorate in the constant movement that marine flags are usually exposed to, and polyester so that the flag does not weaken in the strong UV-light usually found in the main sailing areas of the world.

Electricity:
Dockside current:
Most marinas supply 30amp and 50amp power at least. Some marinas will have at least one hookup for 100amp. It is uncommon to find any greater than 100amp power except at marinas designed to handle superyachts.
Occasionally, if the marina does not have 50amp power, they will allow an adaptor to be used to plug in one 50amp cable into two 30amp plugs that are side-by-side. This will be dependent on how crowded the marina is. A specialized Y-adaptor is required, and jury-rigged equipment is not permitted.
It is common for some marinas to customize the power bollards for long-stay residents. For example, if your yacht needs twin 50-amp plugs, they may make arrangements for your specific needs.
Plugs:
Household plugs are a 3-prong USA standard (Type B) or 2-prong (Type A) without the ground pin.
The shore power plug to connect to shore power is likely different from European standard and you may want to invest in a quality pigtail adaptor. Most foreign sailors who have come up through the Caribbean should already have experienced the regional difference.
If your yacht has 50-amp power, you may benefit from a Y-adaptor/splitter to two 30-amp plugs.
Certification & Standardization:
The American Boat and Yachting Council (ABYC): The United States has a non-profit, non-governmental agency of standardization and certification, similar to the 'CE' mark in the EU/EEA. The ABYC, while independent, is regarded as the premier organization for safety and construction of pleasure craft in the USA. The council also certifies technicians. These standards are often more stringent than those required by the federal government, and most American yacht companies abide by these ABYC standards.
There are a few differences between the CE Mark and ABYC standards, but visiting yachts are not required by law to abide by these standards, even if importing. It is worth mentioning, however, that if you have any work done in the USA, it may be done by an ABYC certified technician, who will conduct the work according to ABYC standards, which may differ slightly in colour coordination of wiring, plumbing or fitting types, natural gas fittings, structural elements (fiberglass density or weave), waterproofing, or fire prevention. Also, in the case of accidents or legal matters, the ABYC standards are referenced for legal judgements in regards to issues of design, construction, maintenance and product performance.
Most products purchased at typical marine supply stores in the USA will automatically meet ABYC standards.
Be careful when purchasing metal materials for vital parts. The difference between bronze and brass may not be specified. Also, there are usually a dozen variations of stainless steel: if the price seems too good to be true, it likely is.
Fuel:
Waterway Guide: have up to date fuel prices and more.
VHF:
For boaters visitring the US, note that they have some very specific VHF channels not availabe on 'International' VHF standards. Most radios have an option to change your region (between International/USA/Canada) so check your manual. E.g. VHF 22A is often used to broadcast marina weather and safety notices.
