See Pacific List of Radio Nets.

The International Dialing Code for the USA is +1 + area code + seven-digit phone number. Standard format is grouped: +1 (555) 123-4567. (Area code, in this case, is 555.)

Most areas of the United States require the complete ten-digit phone number (minus the +1) to connect the call. If calling within the same area city with the same area code, some people will not always give the area code.

Mobile Phones

Upon arrival in the US, insert your SIM card in your phone - different rates in different areas apply. Even international SIM cards will allow emergency calls without a plan on some phones.

Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi is widely accessible across the country. Many coffee shops, restaurants, and public libraries offer free Wi-Fi.

Telephone

In the United States, pay phones are still accessible, but fewer in number since the introduction of mobile phones. Local calls usually cost 25 or 50 cents.

Prepaid Calling Cards

Prepaid calling cards are available for purchase, enabling you to make long-distance calls at a fixed cost. To help manage costs, they can be used at pay phones or hotel phones.

Post

The United States Postal Service (USPS) run by the US government is the most affordable option for sending mail. Stamps can be purchased online or in person at any post office.

DHL, Fed Ex, and UPS are readily available.

VHF

For boaters visiting the US, note that they have some very specific VHF channels not available on 'International' VHF standards. Most radios have an option to change your region (between International/USA/Canada) so check your manual. E.g. VHF 22A is often used to broadcast marina weather and safety notices.
