Description:
South Padre Island is the outer barrier island outside Brownsville, Texas, the last city before crossing into Mexico. Port Isabel is also a significant town in the area with facilities for yachts.
The primary industry in this area is fishing and tourism. Many professional deep-sea fishing competitions are hosted here each year. Each year, South Padre Island is the home to many Spring Break festivities including a music festival.
Just inland of the northern end of South Padre Island (before it becomes Padre Island) there is an important town for cruisers: Port Mansfield. This town has facilities for yachts as well.
Cruising in this area is similar to the rest of South Texas.
