South Padre Island - Docking

Jan 01, 2017

The South Padre Island area is the last stop for dockage and provisions before crossing into Mexico where there are no facilities accessible to yachts for a few hundred miles.

There are fuel and supplies for larger vessels with a slant toward offshore fishing vessels.

Pay attention to water depths and larger yachts should keep to the channels. Some of the areas and marinas are shallow.

Anchorages:

Anchorage options can be limited, but there is a well-known anchorage in the wide part of the Brazos Santiago Pass Inlet at approximately 26º03.78N, 097º09.39W. The incoming surge can be a problem sometimes, but the cove offers good protection, even overnight if waiting for an early dawn departure. This cove is also directly adjacent to the shipping channel and passing vessels can make the anchorage rolly.
