Situated on the southern side of West Mainland in the Orkney Islands, Stromness is a picturesque, bustling small town and is the perfect place from which to visit the sites of the West Mainland.
Approach either from the west through Hoy Mouth, or from the south-east through Hoy Sound. Either of these approaches to Stromness will involve dealing with strong tides. (up to 8kn at Springs).
