Description:

This is the main island in The Scillies. The port, Hugh Town, is on the western side and is the centre of all services for the islands.

Entrance Notes and Cautions:

The easiest and best-marked passage into the main anchorages of St Mary's from the mainland and also from the south is through St Mary's Sound between Gugh and St Mary's.

Alternative passages for experienced yachtsmen approaching from the south are Smith Sound, Broad Sound and the North West Passage (formerly known as the "North Channel").
