Türkiye Yachting Essentials

Turkey's latest annual inflation rate is 33.29% as of September 2025. While still high, this is a significant decrease from the 2024 average of 58.51%. Marina fees have doubled and the government has raised fees on most daily goods and services as well. That said, if you avoid marinas and anchor (which is free) or use restaurant docks, you can still cruise very reasonably in Türkiye, and fuel is much cheaper than in Greece.

Electricity

  • Voltage: 230 V
  • Frequency: 50 Hz

LPG

Propane Gaz bottles are available and, with the appropriate fittings, foreign bottles can be re-filled.

Turkish-made bottles are now subject to new regulations which require the gas bottles to be matched with the ID of the purchaser. There is currently no timescale for the application of this new rule and is unlikely to affect foreign yachts with foreign gas/gaz bottles.

Fuel

Diesel is difficult to obtain as tanker lorries can no longer supply small ports. New regulations require tankers to have a specific (and expensive) license to supply yachts, as opposed to gulets. Plan fuelling stops well ahead and carries spare cans.

Fuel is available at most marinas. Duty free fuel is available in larger quantities only (e.g. 3000+ liters) but it is quite difficult and far more expensive to get duty free fuel north of Cesme or east of Antalya.

Fuel is close to half the price of fuel in Greece.

Water

Water is available at all marinas - expect to pay for the water. Some marinas may charge you for the night, just to take on water.

If there is a municipality or fishing boat marina nearby, it may be worth trying to take on the water there instead as long as you assure them you simply want to take on water and then will leave.

Note: There are marinas within Türkiye and Greece that try to get you to stay overnight if you want any services, including a black water pump out. Legally, all Turkish marinas that have foreign flagged and privately owned yachts' pump out equipment cannot charge you to stay the night. If necessary, get the Turkish Coast Guard involved. The fine for dumping black water if caught is very high. (Note, most municipality marinas cannot pump out a non-commercial vessel.)

Repairs

Technical support and repair and haul-out facilities are not difficult to find in Türkiye. Istanbul and Marmaris offer the most extensive technical support, though technical service is available almost everywhere.

Docking

The standard VAT rate on marina services in Turkey is 20% as of September 2024. This rate applies to services provided to private yachts, ending a long-standing exemption that previously treated them as "sea transport vehicles". You can see this applied in marina price lists where VAT is explicitly added to fees.
Discharge of Waste
By Turkish law, black and grey water must be captured and pumped out on shore. More details at Turkey Restrictions.
