Description:

Ceuta and Melilla are Spanish enclaves on the north coast of Morocco, administered as city provinces of Spain. Also Spanish are the small islands of Alhucemas, Chafarinas and Penon de la Gomera. Ceuta and Melilla are important military bases.

Cruisers approaching this coast should be aware that there is an on-going problem with migrants attempting to cross the border from Morocco, many do so by swimming around controls into Ceuta. Duringn August 2024 approximately 700 people tried to breach the border daily. See news here.

Cruiser Highlights:

A good spot to explore Morocco if you can't get into the Tanja Bay Marina in Tangier.  Ceuta is filled with forts and historical landmarks. Statues of Hercules and his pillars are everywhere and the marina is even named the Hercules Marina.
