Had 2 breakins within a single month at Peurto Sherry near Cadiz, security useless. Stolen items and damage. Left boat with company in charge.

We stayed in Puerto América in October 2017. Good base from which you can explore Cadiz, the centre is a 20 min walk along the sea. We had engine maintenance done by Nautica Trafalgar, very expensive but they could schedule an appointment on short notice. The marina office will hold mail for you. There is a big Carrefour in Cadiz which delivers to the marina. Electricity on pontoon B was still not working.

The price is 20,61 euro for boats 12-13 meter, although we stayed more then a week there was no discount. For 2 euros a day or 8 euros a week, you can get wifi from the chandler in the marina. The signal reached our boat on the I pontoon. The toilets and showers were clean but smelled like sewer. There is washer (3,50) and dryer (2,00). Depth everywhere well over 4 meter, even at low tide.

We visited Puerto Sherry last week. Be careful when entering the marina and give a wide berth to the red buoys.

Peaceful and clean but the toilet and shower facilities need an upgrade. We arrived at 04.30 in the morning but were greeted by friendly staff that helped us with mooring even at that time of night.

It is possible to anchor in the large bay of Cadiz at the position 36 33.1792 N 006 14.5035 W. It is 5m deep, large area, easy approach even at night. Follow the buoyed channel and leave the channel before the red buoy. Near this position are two large green lights.

Addendum: A large suspension bridge us currently under construction between the centre of Cádiz and the mainland, spanning the natural harbour.

It’s visible from afar, also at night, and can be puzzling since it doesn’t show up on charts (yet).

We visited Puerto América in December 2014. The approach is easy in the well-lit channel. Large cruise ships may be encountered. The port itself is also easy to navigate, with lots of space to manoeuvre. The visitor’s pontoon is tucked away at the far end of the basin, just below the club bar. Depths are good, except for the ramp right next to the visitor’s pontoon. Good facilities, including laundry, though no WiFi on the pontoons. There’s a bar nearby that provides WiFi. If you manage a berth close-by, you might just be able to receive the signal on board. Chandler and workshop Náutica Benitez, located at the gate, has large supplies of hardware, mostly engine-related, with friendly and helpful staff. This could be a convenient place to carry out some (engine) maintenance or get some expert advice from an engineer.

If your dinghy (PVC or hypalon) needs any T.L.C. then Manolo Yegua is the man you need. We found his webpage, his one man company is called Marineglue: http://www.marineglue.es or email: [email protected], tel: 630250716 and he sells repair materials and will come to your boat anywhere in the Cadiz area and repair your dinghy for a very reasonable amount.

We asked him to repair / patch our hypalon old dinghy. He collected it at Puerto America and brought it back 2 days later, a brilliant job, he really cares. His website also includes a couple of videos showing how to repair your dinghy. Manolo doesn’t speak any English or French so you may need to enlist the help of marina staff.
