Ayamonte (River Guandiana) - Immigration

Jul 18, 2018

Description:

This attractive town lies about 3 miles upstream from the entrance of the River Guandiana, which marks the border between Spain and Portugal. It lies opposite the Portuguese town of Vila Real de San Antonio, however unlike its neighbour (which suffers from strong currents), once inside the mouth of the harbor there is no real current to speak of here.

Ayamonte has a much more laid back feel than Vila Real de San Antonio and normally more available space.

A regular ferry runs across to the other side.

See also Sanlucar which lies 20nm upstream.

See the Guadiana River Guide for useful information if venturing upstream.

Position:

37° 09.51'N, 07° 23.59'W (river entrance)
