Anchoring, Marinas and Moorings

It is possible to anchor in the harbor and Harbour Control will tell you of any restricted areas.

Anchoring is also possible near 05°58.738'N, 116°04.128'E in front of the Oceanus Waterfront Mall and Amusement Park complex in the middle of fishing and tourist boat moorings. To land ashore, you can go into the river south of the anchorage or use the metal ladder near the mall. Alternatively, you can head 0.5 nm north to Sabah Park jetty and request permission to leave your dinghy at the floating dock.

Other options are to anchor off of Sutera Harbour Marina, Shangra-La anchorage, or off the Kota Kinabalu Yacht Club at Tanjung Aru Beach 6 km from Kota Kinabalu. Note that neither Sutera Harbour Marina nor Shangra-La offers tender landing for anchored yachts.

Anchorage is also available around Pulau Gaya on both the NE and SW sides, though Gaya Island Resort no longer welcomes yachts

Marinas

The large and modern Sutera Harbour Marina is part of the 5-star resort, with two hotels and a 27-hole championship golf course. The deep water marina is easily accessible and is protected year round from extreme weather conditions. Berthing services are available for short and long term rental.  Call in advance for availability. This marina is well protected and all the resort facilities are available to berth holders.
