ALERT:

Pumice from an undersea volcano that erupted in August 2021 is creating severe problems for ports and boats in the Ryukyu Islands, south of Japan. See News story for details. Description:

Naha is a large commercial port located on Okinawa, on the west coast at the southern end of the island. There are two marinas to the north and one to the south of Naha port. The city lies on gently sloping coastal terrace composed of limestone. 38% of the city is occupied by military bases used by the United States.

Position: 

26°13" 41′N, 127°38" 47′E (Entrance to the southern mole).
