For full details on clearing into or out of Greece see Greece Formalities.

This is a Port of Entry.

If clearing into or out of Greece here, moor in the Customs compound on the south side of the ferry quay.

The Port Police are reported to be friendly here. You may be asked to show the boat’s papers (insurance and registration documents) – they normally use these to calculate the mooring fee.

See this report (August 2017) from an American yacht who grounded on the approach to Lixouri and found himself subject to impounding and a surveyor’s report before his papers were returned. Note that after the earthquake in 2014 the port channel markers were removed and have not been replaced.

We sailed to the “marina”. Boats mooring long side. Nothing. No mooring line. No water. No electricity. Very dirty.

Argostolia – Main City of Kefalonia

A little bumpy on the city quay as the wind gusts along the harbor, for us no problems to sleep as after 23:00 the wind and waves slow down.

We found one water hose with clean although not guaranteed drinking water, for shower OK.
Many shops and good fruit and vegetables at the waterfront.

Many ATM’s and banks, we did not find a chandlery but the Port Police is helpful and will call some persons or companies to assist when necessary.

Very friendly (in our case) Port Police, we (12 meter) paid 24,58 € for 3 nights but they have a funny way of calculating, the departure day you have to pay also. So 1 night is 2 days payment.

Wherever we went we had to show the boat’s papers, they were highly interested in Insurance papers and registration papers of the yacht to calculate the mooring fee.

Passports, up to now, since 1st of June, were never asked for, sometimes you have to fill in a crew list, with your passport number, but they did not check it.

This is a busy City and even Cruise ships (the big ones) come here.
