Nisos Kastellorizon (Kastellorizou/Castellorizon/Kastelorizo) is a small rocky island lying a mere 3.2 kms (two miles) south of the Turkish mainland, across from the Turkish port of Kas and about 70NM east of Rhodes. It is the most easterly Greek outpost.
The harbor and town are “picture-perfect” attractive and very welcoming for visiting yachts. Behind the town, a hiking path with 400 steps leads up the mountain and the effort will reward you with breath-taking views, not only of the Kastelorizo town and harbor, but also of the Turkish mainland across the water. Venturing a little further up the rocky path to the top of the mountain brings you to a centuries-old monastery.
The town around the harbor was heavily bombed during WW1 after which many of the 2000 occupants left for Australia. Some of the houses behind the waterfront are still in ruin and only about 200 people remain today. The 1991 Oscar-winning movie for foreign language, "Mediterraneo", made the island popular.

Immigration waves have stopped. Life has come back to normal. The reason for that is the fact that refugees are”blocked” in Greece since they are not accepted by other European countries and not any kind of real actions of NATO or Turkish. We will see what will happen in winter time again.

revisited this beautiful island and harbour May 1st, 2016. Clearing is very easy and relaxed, all officials are within a 3-minute walk of the docking area and will help with the paperwork.
No mention was made that we should use an agent, likewise when we cleared out here last Fall.
According to the Port Police, the flow of migrants has stopped completely since the agreement between Turkey and EU came into force.
We did see numerous deflated dinghies and used life jackets laying around, but during the 2 days we were in port did not notice any migrants being brought in.
