Andros - General Info

May 05, 2022

Description:

This mountainous island is the most northern of the Cyclades and is the second largest. Its high peaks are capped with snow in the winter and its slopes covered in woods and cultivated fields. Andros is a popular holiday spot for Greeks.

There are three ports; Gavrion and Batsi close together on the NW side and Kastro mid-way down the east coast.

Entrance Notes and Cautions:

The Doro Strait, between the northern coast of Andros and the island of Evia, should be approached with caution. The Meltemi funnels through here producing a nasty sea and it should be avoided in high northerly winds.

Position:

37° 52.69'N, 24° 43.87'E (approach to Gaviron)
