Ferries to Isla Ons depart from the harbour quay at Portonovo and Sanxenxo.

The trekking route “Ruta dos Muinos” follows the river of the same name behind the village of Samiera, 4 miles north of Sanxenxo. The 10km route takes the walker past many watermills, some restored, and offers excellent views of the Ria below.

The coastline here is a succession of rocky shores and clean beaches protected by vegetation and bathed by clear waters. At the “Mogor Beach”, you will find a fascinating collection of well-preserved petroglifos (stone etchings) of mysterious labyrinths, easily accessible from the shore.

Gaze out over the estuary and your eyes will be drawn to Tambo Island nestling between the two shores.

The beach of Paxarinas near Portonovo is a relaxing spot, and the track in the forest from the beach to Punta Cabitastro is worth doing for the view.

Pontevedra old town is completely closed to traffic and second only to Santiago for its traditional setting and noble buildings.

To the north of Aguete, the petroglyphs of Magor are a legacy of Galician prehistory. Playa do Mogor next to the petroglyphs is a picturesque anchorage 1m NE of Aguete Marina. Alternatively, it is a pleasant walk along the small road from Aguete.

Sea Museum, Bueu – taking up 2 halls and focusing on a wide variety of areas: maritime ethnography, nautical instruments and furniture, cartography, scale models, archaeological remains such as prehistoric fish hooks, rare books and art.

    Data Entry says:

Combarro is indeed a lovely village, we anchored in front of the marina, well protected, plenty of space. But the marina (Gold Anchor!)is not very hospitable:
“Do you have Camping Gaz?” ” Sorry, only for boats in the marina”
“Can we leave our tender here?” “Sorry, only for members”.

But do go there to visit Combarro. Easy bus to Pontevedra
