Piscinas Naturales do Rio Pedras, Pobra do Caraminal - These natural pools the north of the town are worth a visit for a dip in the water.
Curro Chan das Canizadas, Pobra do Caraminal - This festival in mid-July is a traditional gathering centred on the many horses that roam the Curota hills behind the town. The horses are gathered and their manes and tails tidy among the actions of the fiesta.
Fiesta del Carmen (patron virgin of sailors), Pobra do Caraminal - This takes place in August and involves a parade of boats following an image of the Virgin through the water.
Percebeiros - Cabo de Corrubedo on the NW entrance to the Ria is home to these wetsuit-clad collectors, who precariously pluck percebes (strange claw-like shellfish) from the rocky shoreline. The best viewing point is from the lighthouse.
Parque Natural de Corrubedo - An area of outstanding natural beauty, with impressive sand dunes and 2 lagoons with extensive wildlife. The entrance near the village of Vilar to the south includes a good information centre. Your best option to enjoy the park is to arrange transport from Ribeira (unless it is a very calm day).
Parque Periurbano de San Roque, Ribeira - An interesting assembly of megalithic, pre-roman buildings and a Roman amphitheatre, with excellent views.
Centro del Grabado Antiguo y Contemporaneo, Artes - 5km north of Ribeira, this excellent centre houses work by Rembrandt, Goya, Picasso and Dali.
From Rianxo, take a taxi to visit the horreo de Arano, at 37m the longest of these now protected grain stores of Galicia. Rianxo also celebrates a Sardine Festival every June and the fiesta of Santa Maria de Guadeloupe in September. This week-long fiesta has entertainment every evening culminating in all-night event. The historic town of Padron lies 16km away (from where come the wonderful tapas "Pimientos de Padron").
Catoira, at the top of the Ria, is home each 1 August to a re-enactment of a Viking invasion, with replica boats and dressed up locals who take part in mock battles and drinking celebrations.
Isla de Cortegada off Vilagarcia boasts the only laurel forest of its kind in W. Europe. This island has escaped being turned into a resort and is now a site of "special interest" with the forest, pretty beaches, horses and goats and other happy wild residents.
Cambados (in the SW of the Ria) is one of the main tourist destinations in Galicia. Its historic past and old Medieval streets house many monuments of interest, and as it is the home of Albarino, this delicious fruity white wine can be sampled everywhere. Don't miss the Sardine Festival here on 25 July (Galicia Day) and the Wine Festival on the first Sunday in August.
O Grove is a major holiday resort with a wonderful Seafood Festival on 14 September.
