Description:
Mar Menor is the totally enclosed lagoon in the south-east of Murcia, just before you go around Cabo Palo and west to Cartagena.
The lagoon is separated from the Mediterranean sea by La Manga, a sandbar 22km in length and with a variable width from 100 to 1200m. It is a home of the rare Andouin Gull.
This is a superb area for all types of watersports.
Entrance Notes and Cautions:
The lagoon suffers from agrictultural pollution and during August 2021 millions of dead fish and crustaceans were washed up on the lagoon shores. An enviromental roadmap to regenerate the lagoon was announced in November 2021.
