Description:
Estepona is located in Malaga, Andalucia, southern Spain in the Costa del Sol. Well known for its beaches it is a very popular year-round holiday destination.
The port lies approx. 10NM SW of Marbella and as well as an active fishing industry houses the marina which is one of the oldest in Spain.
This harbor offers a safe haven and is approachable in all weathers (except a strong SW gale). It is also a more economical base than Puerto Banus at Marbella.
Cruiser Highlights:
Anchorage and marina; excellent repair services; shipyard NE of harbor with 80 ton travelift; English speaking sail loft; chandlery; Club Nautico; easy laundry and provisioning; Roman remains; early morning fish market; good beaches.
Entrance Notes and Cautions:
The port breakwaters have underwater projections and the entrance may be untenable in a SW gale.
It is likely dredgers will be operating in the harbor entrance due to frequent silting (a problem encountered all along this coast) and there is often substantial fishing boat traffic.
Position:
36° 24.69'N, 05° 09.57'W (harbor entrance)
