Mayreau - Bio Security

HURRICANE BERYL:  The island nations of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Grenada were the worst affected by Hurricane Beryl at the start of July 2024. The Grenadines, Carriacou, Petit Martinique and Union Island were particularly hard hit.  While the islands are recovering and all major marine services are back up and running (apart from on Union Island), cruisers should be aware that the islands are still in recovery mode and some services may still be limited or not available.

Where is Mayreau?

Mayreau is located in the southern Grenadines to the north of Union Island and to the west of the Tobago Cays. It covers approximately 1½ square miles making it the smallest (1 1/2 square miles) of the inhabited Grenadine Islands.  It has a population of just over 308 people who make their living from fishing and tourism.

Cruiser Highlights for Mayreau:

There is no airport here, so the only way to visit the island is to sail or come by ferry. The café-lined colourful village street leads upwards to the church and a rewarding view of Tobago Cays. There is a small village store and numerous cafes.

The island is rimmed by magnificent sweeping white sandy beaches.

On the leeward coastline there are three bays with large white sand beaches. Saline Bay in the south has a jetty and is where the ferry between St Vincent and Union Island docks.

On the windward side of the island there are two long white sand beaches that are protected by a series of offshore reef systems.
