There is a hike across the Island to Juara beach. A trail through the jungle runs parallel to the water supply pipes from the top of the ridge, and so it's well maintained. Expect at least 90 min one way, easily longer if you do not keep apace on and stop to enjoy the views, chat with the monkeys, etc. It's possible to hire a car to drive you back from Juara.
Juara Turtle Project, RM 10 per person entry, is at the S. end of Juara village and well worth the price of admission. The project collects newly laid eggs and hatches them in controlled, secure areas of the beach. They have a wealth of information to share about turtle conservation efforts and ocean health. Volunteers at the project are well informed and doing good work to educate locals and visitors alike. Most nesting occurs between April and October.
Waterfall hike: directions available from Juara turtle project. This gentle hike leads to a cool freshwater pool high up the hillside in the jungle. Lovely views and interesting flora/fauna on the way there. Approx 45 minutes one way. The "waterfall" is more like a rapid but is lovely regardless.
