Located 35 NM off the east coast of the Malaysian peninsula, Tioman Island has been voted one of the world's most beautiful islands. Scenic, tranquil, with miles of white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters teeming with spectacular marine life and colourful coral gardens. The twin peaks of Gunung Nenek Semukut provide a prominent landmark to this island.
This is one of the most popular islands on Malaysia's east coast and is used to yacht arrivals. However, there is a heavy penalty for damaging corals in the Pahang-Tioman Marine Park so pay special attention to where you anchor. It is best to approach the bay in daylight hours as there is a fringing reef which rises rapidly from 20 metres. Arrival after sunset is not recommended.
Tioman, along with eight other nearby islands, forms the Tioman Island Marine Park. The area is well known as a diving destination with vibrant marine life including fishes, turtles, rays and colourful corals. Diving at Tioman can also give you the opportunity of spotting the rare whale shark.
