Where is Mersing?

Mersing is situated on the east coast of the mainland Malaysia approximately 136km from the city centre of Johor Bahru. Once a sleepy fishing village, it has grown into a busy town, acting as the main gateway for the offshore islands  of Tioman, Rawa, Dayang, Aur, Pemanggil, Tinggi, Besar and Seri Buat.

Entrance Notes and Cautions for Mersing:

Mersing port has a river entrance, is notoriously shallow during low tide and there is plenty of boat traffic. The narrow channel is buoyed and has leading markers.  The entrance sand bank is about 1.6kms wide and very shallow.  There are plenty of ferries to follow in if you are unsure of access depths.

On approach, call the Marine Department on VHF Channel 16 to confirm your position and request permission to anchor.

Position:

02°26.17'N, 103°50.45'E (river entrance)
