Fatu Hiva is the southernmost island of the Marquesas. Only about 700 people lie here and as the island doesn't get many tourists, cruising boats are often given a warm welcome.
Since Thor Heyerdahl lived here for a year in the 1920s, the island has long symbolized the South Pacific islands for many of us. The island is mysterious and the people living in the dark valley of Hanavave are somewhat special.
Dramatic, stunning scenery with some great hikes. Local arts and crafts and barter for goods.
The Baie des Vierges is perhaps the most scenic anchorage in the Marquesas.
