Boats are advised to call the Bahamian Defence Force (BDF) on VHF to notify them of their arrival and to request entry, and they will then advise the Customs and Immigration Officials.
George Harris, the Town Dock Dockmaster along with his assistant, answers questions via his cell phone, Town Dock 242-425-4308. They use VHF radio channel 16 "Master Dock Radio", but a phone call is wise for them to turn it ON, electricity being what it is in the islands.
The only Customs/Immigration office on the island is at the airport, approx. 4km away from the anchorage.
Customs will come to the dock to take you to their offices, its an efficient and friendly service.
On the south side of the harbour is a concrete quay which yachts can use to tie up to for Customs clearance if no commercial vessels are using it. It's approx. 300ft long and pleasure yachts should tie up on the starboard side.
It is possible to anchor off the beach closest to the airport in about seven feet of water in the sand. This is best just south of the big "BURIED CABLE" sign (Waypoint 20 58.28 N, 73 40.78 W).
If previously checked into Bahamas and have a cruising permit, the process is painless and quick, a few minutes walk up the road.
