Great Guana Cay - Docking

Anchoring:

There are no slips or moorings here, but this is one of the largest and best anchorages in the Exumas. Most boats anchor off the town and fairly close to shore, but this is large anchorage with plenty of good spots to anchor between Dotham Point and Black Point. While being closer to shore means a shorter dinghy ride, further out you will find more breeze.

Ashore:

There are two good dinghy docks: the government dock and one at Rockside Laundry. Garbage can be deposited in a trailer at the government dock (please leave a donation), and there is free reverse osmosis water at a tap just south of the dock.

Adderley’s Store has a good stock of staple items and more when the mailboat comes in. Rockside laundry has a good reputation and also stocks some marine supplies, pastries and has showers for a fee. Customers can also get free WiFi. Bread can be ordered from Lorraines and there are a few good places to eat ashore.

Exploring ashore you will find a great ocean-side beach just 15 minutes by foot to the NE. Turn left at the dock, then right on to a gravel road that leads across the island. At the top of the hill on the left is a natural blowhole, which is spectacular. Drop down onto the beach.

We are currently In Black Point Settlement and met with Lorraine today. Lorraine from Lorraine’s Cafe is planning lots of exciting things not only for the 15th, but through the weekend! Lorraine said that the island will blow our minds during the get together, so if you’re down in the Exumas join the fun.

She had a couple requests. She’s asked for school supplies for the kids (they will be involved in the fun), some volleyballs, and she needs a new SSCA flag. Hers was battered beyond recognition. So if you’re still in the States and can pick up any of the above items she would really appreciate it.

She cooked up an incredible buffet today. Her mom is still baking fresh bread every day. We got cinnamon raisin today!!
