This is a port of entry. See the main SVG Clearance page for full details on clearance procedures.
Following the devastation from Hurricane Beryl, Customs and Immigration officials are in attendance every day at the Bougainvilla Restaurant and Bar to provide clearance formalities for cruisers visiting the island.
Visiting yachts arriving at Union Island from outside St Vincent territorial waters must proceed to the seaport in Clifton Harbour which is the main port of entry for Customs clearance on Union Island. It's no longer possible to clear Customs at Union Island Airport.
Some cruisers do anchor elsewhere on Union - Frigate Island, Chatham Bay etc. - and walk or taxi to Clifton to clear-in. However, there have been a number of recent incidents where yachts have anchored in these places and not bothered clearing into the country. Therefore, the authorities now appear to be clamping down and require that yachts only anchor in Clifton Harbor for clearance. You may be fined if you fail to follow the rules.
Customs and Immigration are now based in the same building (but in different offices) near the main square in Clifton. Clear-in via the SailClear system at the Customs office which is 150m to the left of the dinghy dock (or complete SailClear prior to arrival and take your notification number and docs. with you).
Offices are open Monday to Fridays - 8:00am to 4:00pm.
