Where is Port Klang?

Port Klang is Malaysia's principal gateway and busiest port, situated on the West Coast of the Malaysian Peninsula in the Straits of Melacca and due west of the nation's capital of Kuala Lumpur.

Entrance Notes and Cautions for Port Klang:

The volume of shipping traffic is quite high, but both the south and north channels are well marked and yachts should not experience any problems provided they stay outside to buoyed shipping channels.

Previously yacht skippers have reported floating rubbish. However, in 2016 local authorities in the State of Selangor installed barriers at strategic points in an attempt to clean up the 110-km long Klang River. This has led to a marked difference in the condition of the water downstream of the last boom, in particular of the RSYC.  Tidal ranges at Port Klang vary between 2metres during neaps and 5.5metres during spring tides.

There are several navigation hazards on the approach to Port Klang. See the comments section and the Port Klang Marine Handbook.

Cruiser Highlights for Port Klang:

No doubt the best thing about this port is the Royal Selangor Yacht Club which welcomes cruising yachts and has wonderful facilities.  Services ashore include banks, postal service, medical clinic and money changers.

Position:

03°0.31'N, 101°23.37'E (RSYC visitor pontoon)
