Where is Lahad Datau?

This is a mainly commercial port on the northern side of Darvel Bay on the far eastern coast of Sabah. A deepwater port facility for the export of palm oil.

Cruiser Highlights for Lahad Datau:

Tun Sakaran Marine Park (TSMP) is situated on the southeast of Darvel Bay near the town of Semporna.  A number of new moorings have been established there for visitors to the islands in this state park.

Security:

It is in an area of disputed territory and has been subject to Malaysian anti-terrorist attacks, as well as the kidnapping of foreign tourists from various islands south of Semporna.

In September 2018, armed attackers boarded a trawler north of Pulau Bodgaya, an island about 30 nm southeasts of Lahad Datu, and abducted two Indonesian fishermen. It was the first kidnapping in 2018 in what was once a dangerous hot spot of pirate activity.

Position:

04°58.3'N,118°24.9'E (bay entrance)
