YOU MUST PRE-BOOK A BERTH HERE – SEE TOP OF PAGE FOR DETAILS.

The harbor is well protected even though the wind can blow strongly from the north.  The reception pier is to the right of the entrance on the inside of the southern breakwater.

Security:

The gates are not equipped with locks but 24hour security is provided by marineros.

Marina:

This is reported to be a friendly little harbor with pontoons where you may find a space. Visitor berths for incoming yachts are at the western pier in the southern part, almost opposite the entrance.  There about 10 berths equipped with boxes for water and electricity (though some may not work).

If there are not enough berths, yachts can also moor at the footbridge connecting the two pontoons. As there is often a surge in the harbor, a breast anchor laid to haul the boat off the wall can make things more comfortable. Although the quay is high there are ladders leading right down to the water.

There are provisions and restaurants on shore and there is a chandlery by the boatyard and several dive schools.

There is often some rusty dust in the air that will stick to your boat and will only come off after a good scrubbing.

I am in La Restinga again, see the other post. No big changes from last time but I want to emphasize that space is limited (only 6 berths on pontoons), reservations on Puerto Canarios’s website not always work. Size is a problem on pontoons for boats bigger than 11 meters in length and wider than 3.5 meters. Some space against the wall.

There is often wind in the +20kts range in the basin making maneuvering challenging, especially for rental boats, and even worse when they try to follow instructions from the security guy. I had two collisions by said boats who left no contact info as they left. There has been an increase in rental boats in the archipelago to a point it is becoming a nuisance.

The port itself lies inside an acceleration zone, wind can get really strong there when from the north, and be much lighter less than 10 miles offshore. The port is well protected, during my stay (a bit more than two weeks) the wind was between nil and 47Kts gust.

It felt and was safe. I paid 9.34 euro per day. Water and electricity are included. WiFi can be found close to the Port’s office, free of charge, the harbourmaster has the password. There are 24hrs security and a locked door, 10 euro deposit for the key.

I spent a week in the boatyard (Varadero) to strip off the old antifouling, clean up the rest of the hull, repair it and put a new primer and antifouling among other things. The boatyard has really good prices, for one week, including the lift and 2 hours of pressure washer: I paid 177 euro. I did everything myself and slept in my boat.

I used the fishermen’s bathroom and showers (hot showers…) in the boatyard. There is a ship chandler in the boatyard where everything a fisherman needs can be found and more, for the rest it can be ordered and brought onsite. Dario, the lift operator speaks English.
