Durban Docking for Yacht

Anchoring

It is possible to anchor in the Silburn Channel (29° 51′ 53,91″ S 31° 01′ 36,62″ E), where the holding is reasonably good. You will see there are various catamarans anchored here. Fore and aft anchors are required and care should be taken not to obstruct the channel.

Marinas

Durban has three marinas - the main Durban Marina opposite the Esplanade, which is flanked by the shore-side facilities of the Point Yacht Club and Royal Natal Yacht Club, Wilson's Wharf marina which is used by local motorboats, and the smaller Bluff Yacht Club facility 5 nm from the harbour entrance in the Silt Canal near Bayhead.

Phone Durban Marina for a walk-on mooring before leaving Richards Bay.

There are on-going dredging operations here, in and around Durban Marina, however silting is confined to the area around Bluff Yacht Club. Durban Marina has had silt coming in but that only affects the shallower section where the motor boats are berthed and it does not affect the large area where the yachts are berthed.
