Noumea - Transport & Travel

May 20, 2025

Tontouta International Airport is situated 45 km north of Noumea. Flight destinations include Paris, Auckland, Sydney, Brisbane, Fiji, Vila, Bali, and Tokyo.

Several bus companies service the airport, and this is by far the cheapest way to go or come from there. All internal flights depart from Magenta Airport, a fifteen-minute drive from central Noumea. Flights are available to Isle of Pines, the Loyalty Islands, and some of the larger towns on the east and north coasts of the main island.

There are plenty of car hire companies in Noumea.

For a taxi, call 28 35 12

If using the buses, it is cheaper to buy a ticket from one of the automatic dispensers which are scattered around the town than to purchase one when boarding. A tourist day pass costs about 6 euro.
